Impromptu yoga yields thousands to Times Square in the middle of New York City on June 21st to mark summer solstice, the longest day of the year. The yoga session was organized by the Time Square Alliance along with a women’s sportswear company, Lucy, who handed out free yoga mats.

The celebration was free for anyone to come join as it was a modern twist to ancient pagan fertility rituals, worshiping the powers of the sun at the height of its power.

Tim Tompkins of the Times Square Alliance said: “We’re trying to create a little ocean or perhaps just a little lake or just a drop of serenity in the midst of all this madness. It’s an attempt, on the longest day of the year, when the sun is shining brightest, to tap into that energy and have it help carry us through the rest of the year. “(International Business Times) The event which was held from 7:30am to 7:30pm rain or shine on Tuesday, turned out to be a big hit and great exposure for The Time Square Alliance as well as the women’s sportswear line, Lucy!

  1. It had been a great event, and the pictures help me out in learning new postures.
